Radvilija

Radvilija is a website I made with my friends for our school. It was a student listing website where students could exchange stuff they no longer needed, creating a sustainable and friendly relationship between students.

The making of Radvilija was a true rollorcoaster of emotions that can be explored here.

But the project itself was quite a success:

• Support from our school’s administration - The project was well received and backed by our school’s administration.
• Functional website - We managed to make a website that was functional and had everything we wanted.
• Team growth - We’ve had people who joined to our team and contributed to the project.
• Modern features - From a well-working listing system, to including profile customization and even a messaging system.
• Sustainability in mind - The project promoted sustainability and a friendly relationship between students.

From a perspective of management, implementation and ambition, Radvilija was successful and had a great impact on me and my team. It was a great learning experience and a project that we can be proud of.

Things I learned when working on Radvilija:

• Teamwork - Working in a team and managing a website was tricky at first, but got easier everyday.
• Wordpress - Wordpress is a great tool for blogging, but shouldn’t be used for anything ambitious.
• Working with Microsoft SSO - The experience of working with Microsoft’s SSO can be utilized in future projects or even later in my career.
• Joy of structured code - Structuring and modularizing a project is a great way to make it easier to work with.

Radvilija was built on Wordpress and relied on complex modifications, from custom plugins to rewrites where necessary.

It used Microsoft’s SSO for authentication and a custom listing system for students to post their items. The project was well structured and saw brief spike in users, with several listings submitted from across the school.

Besides the lack of adoption, it could easily be revived with a modern development stack and renewed team, as well as better marketing and promotion.
